Imperial Sand Dunes
This 40 mile long dune system is one of the largest in the United States. Formed by windblown beach sands of ancient Lake Cahuilla, some crests reach heights of over 300 feet. These expansive dune formations offer picturesque scenery, opportunities for solitude, a chance to view rare plants and animals, and a playground for OHVs. The BLM manages portions of the dunes system for different uses. The portion of the dunes, south of California State Route 78, is a popular OHV recreation area. Two BLM campgrounds along paved Gecko Road provide hard surface parking, vault toilets, and trash facilities, perfect for off road rentals at the Imperial Sand Dunes. Visitor information and emergency medical services are available weekends during the winter and spring seasons (October-May) at Cahuilla Ranger Station. Other portions of the Imperial Sand Dunes, including Mammoth Wash and Buttercup Valley, extend beyond this map to the north and south, and are depicted on the Salton Sea and Yuma Desert Access Guides.

Buckman Springs ( Lake Morena ) - McCain Valley ( Corral Canyon )
This 1800 acre area was set aside as an open area for off-road vehicle users. It was developed with the use of State of California off-highway funds (green sticker funds). Twelve Miles of OHV Trails are accessible from the Four Corners Trailhead. There are challenges for rides of all types of vehicles and operators of all skill levels. Access is by Interstate 8 to Buckman Springs Road. Corral Canyon Road off Buckman Springs Road leads to the Four Corners Trailhead and staging area. For more information contact the Cleveland National Forest at 858-673-6180.
The Corral Canyon off-road vehicle open area is located within the southern-most third of Cleveland National Forest near Morena Reservoir. Visitors should take I-8 to Buckman Springs Road, (watch for the SDORC Adopt-a-Highway sign!), Drive south 3.6 miles, turn right onto Corral Canyon Road and drive 6.2 miles to the Four Corners Trailhead. At the trailhead there is staging for over 12 miles of trails for all types of ORVs. Travel off established trails is permitted within the designated area, however, once outside of this region all vehicles must remain on the established roads and trails. This area offers challenges from everyone from expert to beginner with over 1,800 acres to explore. ORVs are prohibited on Corral Canyon Road between Buckman Springs and Four Corners.
Corral Canyon has two campgrounds with picnic fire rings and vault toilets. Interior trails are very technical, and are frequently more difficult than their rating. The entire area is surrounded by miles of easy fire roads for the beginner. Elevation is about 4,000 feet and the area does receive snow at times during the winter, as well as reaching temperatures in the upper 90s at times during the summer. Note that Corral is located in the Cleveland National Forest, so legally you need an Adventure Pass and a Green Sticker or license plate. The majority of users are dirt bikes, but many people enjoy the rock-crawling challenges Corral Canyon presents to the 4x4 crowd. This area is also becoming increasingly popular with mountain bikers as well.
